Perioral dermatitis
Explanation
In the areas close to the mouth, such as the nasolabial folds and around the mouth, there is the appearance of red bumps, pustules, and vesicles, which characterizes perioral dermatitis. The peculiarities and management of this condition are described below:
Features
- Red and erythematous protrusions in the nasal passages and around the mouth.
- Vascular and papular lesions in the affected area.
- Itching sensation on the skin and burning. (not always)
- Absence of blackheads (black and white points)
- It may be mistaken for acne, although it can be differentiated by the absence of comedones.
Causes
- The actual cause is psychosomatic, but it has also been linked to the use of hair creams containing steroids.
- It could also be linked to the use of fluorocarbon toothpaste or cosmetics.

Handling
- Stop using the offending product and wash your face with lukewarm water.
