Nail Disorders

Explanation

Nail disorders can result from various factors, including internal illnesses, trauma, infections, or medications. Brittle nail syndrome is characterized by weak, easily broken nails. Onychomycosis, a fungal infection, causes changes in nail color, thickness, and fragility, while paronychia leads to redness, swelling, and pus around the nail bed due to infection. Nail psoriasis often accompanies skin psoriasis and results in inflamed, thickened nails. Longitudinal melanoma may indicate malignancy or another systemic illness, appearing as brown or black streaks on the nails. Beau’s lines, which are transverse depressions, can be caused by infections, medications, or nutritional deficiencies. Onychomadesis refers to the separation of the nail from the nail bed, often due to trauma or infection. Retronychia, commonly linked to ingrown nails, causes inflammation and infection. Each of these conditions has distinct symptoms and may require medical attention for proper diagnosis and treatment.
